How To Get The Most From Your Trial

A trial is intended to give you some hands-on experience with Cloud FastPath to ensure that it meets your migration requirements. You will be able to move a small amount of data to get the feel of the experience of using CFP. The biggest advantage is that after the trial, you can continue working in your Cloud FastPath dashboard without any interruption.

There are many ways to test drive CFP during your trial, and we encourage you to try out all the powerful features.

What is a good data set to test?

We recommend creating a sample of test data to use during your trial. Transferring some live data will give you a tangible example of what the data migration will be like.

A good test data set would include a mixture of file types that are important to you. Some examples below:

  • Files with multiple versions
  • Commonly used file types for your organization
  • Any special files like Box Notes, Dropbox Paper, or other source-specific file types

The test data should be small, no larger than 10GB, although don’t worry about making sure it’s exactly 10GB. Anything above will not migrate while you are in the trial, and you’ll see “quota exceeded” messages in your Transfer and Simulation reports. This is nothing to worry about, it’s only telling you which files were above the allowable quota. When you are no longer in a trial, the quota will be lifted.

Example Trial Itinerary

  • Day 1
    • If you’re coming from a file server, install and configure your CFP Windows agent. Please be mindful of any firewalls or proxies you may have in place. Please see this article for more information: https://www.cloudfastpath.com/kb/guide/windows-app/troubleshooting-connections-ports-and-firewalls-primer-guide/
    • Depending on the size, you may begin analyzing some or all of your source data. The Analysis report will help you uncover internal and external collaborators, user and data count, file types, and more. During the trial, you can choose to analyze a small group of users and leave the whole system Analysis for later.
  • Day 2-3
    • Review Analysis Report to inform overall migration strategy
      • Useful information to look for in your Analysis results:
        • Internal and External collaborators
        • User and Data count
        • VIP Users
    • Create an empty folder on the target for the test migration to keep it separate from any other live data.
  • Day 4-5
    • Create a small test migration job between your source and target
    • Run a Simulation
  • Day 6-7
    • Review Simulation results, clear any errors, make any final changes and if need be re-simulate.
    • If simulation results are acceptable, move a small amount of data to the target.
  • Day 8-9
    • Review test migration results
    • Use results to plan your migration strategy

Your trial doesn’t just allow you to test drive CFP – it gives you time to prepare and set up your migration, so once all forms are signed you haven’t lost any time in your migration. You can begin setting up all of your jobs during the trial  in preparation for the actual migration while you review Simulation results and run your test migration.

Once you are provisioned for your migration, all restrictions will be lifted and you can immediately run a Simulation on your prepared jobs. Running a Simulation will allow you to catch and correct most issues before moving any live data.

Once the simulation(s) are complete and you are happy with the results, migrate your actual data.
